Gloomy Times Demand Cities to Adapt

From 24 to 26 September 2026, Banja Luka will host the 11th International Academic Conference “Places and Technologies” (PT26) under the theme Gloomy Times Demand Cities to Adapt. The conference explores how contemporary cities respond to uncertainty, overlapping crises, and social, technological, and environmental change. Special attention will be given to public spaces, mobility systems, green and blue infrastructure, participatory tools, and technologies that support resilience and social cohesion. 

PT26 brings together researchers, practitioners, artists, technologists, and policymakers to share knowledge and practices for adapting cities, aiming to shape more just, resilient, and liveable urban environments. 

Interested participants are invited to submit abstracts of their papers no later than 15 March 2026.
The conference will take place at the University of Banja Luka, at the Faculty of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy. 

 

 The conference program will cover topics of interest that include: 

  • Image, identity, and quality of place 
  • Urban design and planning for adaptive and liveable cities 
  • Architecture, building technologies, structures, and materials 
  • Adaptable, resilient, and sustainable architecture 
  • Adaptive reuse and heritage preservation 
  • Landscape architecture and green infrastructure 
  • Public space, urban health, and social cohesion 
  • Digital technologies, data, and AI in urban environments 
  • Urban mobility, accessibility, and everyday safety 
  • Affordable housing, inclusion, and spatial justice
