Nikola S. Mitrović was born in 1996 in Belgrade, where he has finished his primary and secondary education at the Architectural Technical School, graduating with honors: student of generation – valedictorian, Holder of Vukova diploma both. He graduated from the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Belgrade in 2020, completing the Single-Cycle 5-year Study Programme in Architecture (Integrated Bachelor’s and Master’s academic studies) an average grade of 9.53/10.00 (the highest in his generation). His master’s thesis, titled E75 2100: Chronotope, was nominated by an external faculty committee for the international competition Architecture MasterPrize. After the evaluation process, it received an Honorable Mention in the category: Student / Architectural Design / Conceptual Architecture. He has enrolled in doctoral studies in 2020 and is currently working on his doctoral dissertation titled Urban Regeneration of Peripheral Spaces of Megablocks: The Case of New Belgrade (supervised by Prof. Dr. Aleksandra Djukić). His research focuses on the quality of peripheral pedestrian spaces, particularly those within modernist block systems and unfinished modernization, with an emphasis on urban design and cognitive psychology. His multidisciplinary approach is reflected in his professional, pedagogical, and scientific work.
After completing his Master’s studies and obtaining the title of Master of Architecture, he began his professional career at Aqua Still Group (2020-2021) within the My First Job program, primarily working on water and sewage installations documentation for national and international projects in Serbia (notable projects: NCR Campus Novi Beograd, LIDL Distribution Center Lapovo, and other commercial and industrial facilities). He continued as an architect/external collaborator at Nice Home Investment (2022-2024). Concurrently, he worked as an architect/external collaborator at the architectural office ATI Project (2020-2023), contributing to tender and BIM documentation for various international projects (notable project: Bispebjerg Hospital – Copenhagen, Denmark).
Nikola has developed his mentoring skills through teaching at the Department of Architecture, Urbanism, and Architectural Technologies at the Faculty of Architecture, University of Belgrade. Since 2018, he has been repeatedly engaged as an Teaching Fellow, and from 2021, he has been a Scholarship holder of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development of the Republic of Serbia. In 2022, he was appointed as a Junior Research Assistant, and since April 2023, he has been employed in the same capacity at the Department of Urbanism under the Ministry’s institutional model for financing researchers. Since 2025, he has been appointed as Research Assistant. He actively participates in the work of UrbanLAB: Laboratory for Urban Regeneration and Design of Open Public Spaces. He is involved in teaching design studio courses and elective subjects at the undergraduate, Master’s, and Integrated academic levels. As a member of the scientific events working group, he participates in organizing various conferences (Places and Technologies, UBUR-Urban Safety and Urban Development) and other faculty activities.
Nikola publishes the results of his research at national and international conferences, in scientific journals, and in monographs of international significance. He continues his research work through participation in several scientific research projects, including international INTERREG, Creative Europe, and COST projects, as well as the national UNDP Serbia project. Since April 2025, he has been engaged as Communication Manager and Researcher on the international project Danube Ruralscapes – a Network of Professional Support for Self-organized Village Clusters Achieving Sustainable Heritage-based Ruralscapes, within the EU INTERREG Transnational Programme for the Danube Region.
Nikola has participated in numerous architectural and urban planning competitions and exhibitions in Serbia and abroad. He also has experience working in multicultural groups, both as a participant and organizer in international workshops.
Since November 2021, he has been a member of the AESOP Young Academics Network, and since February 2023, he was appointed Regional Ambassador of AESOP Young Academics to Balkans 2023-2025. As part of the AESOP network, he was elected to the working body of a scientific event and co-chaired the TRACK 18 TOURISM sessions at the international AESOP 2025 Congress held in July 2025 in Istanbul, Turkey.
Nikola is a member of the Serbian Town Planner Association – STPA.
