Ivan Filipović (1987) successfully completed his doctoral studies (2017-2020) at the Faculty of Science and Technology, Keio University, Tokyo, Japan, after obtaining his Bachelor’s (2009) and Master’s degrees (2011) at the Faculty of Architecture, University of Belgrade, Serbia.

Scholarship recipient, awarded by the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Serbia (2007-2009) and the Government of Japan – MEXT Scholarship (Monbukagakushō Shōgakukin) (2016-2020) for postgraduate studies.

He defended his doctoral dissertation titled Soft Power Architecture: Mechanisms, Manifestations and Spatial Consequences of Embassy Buildings and Exported Ideologies during the 2020/2021 school year and obtained the title of Ph.D. in Engineering.

Participated in teaching at the Faculty of Architecture, Department of Architecture, as a Teaching Associate for  Master studies (2011-2013) and the Faculty of Science and Technology, Keio University as a Research Associate in co+labo studio at undergraduate, master and doctoral levels (2016-2020).

While working in the co+labo studio as a mentor (advisor) for the application process for studies abroad (letters of intent and portfolio) he achieves significant results with Japanese students who are admitted to Universities: Harvard, Yale, Columbia, Berkely, UCLA – University of California, Los Angeles and the AA School of Architecture.

Employed at the Embassy of Japan in the Republic of Serbia, Belgrade (2013-2015) as an architect – Assistant Coordinator of Construction and Maintenance of the Property of the Embassy of Japan in Serbia.

Member of the Association of Serbian Architects (ASA), the Applied Artists and Designers Association of Serbia (ULUPUDUS) and the Architectural Institute of Japan.

He regularly participates in architectural competitions, workshops and conferences, both domestic and international.

Bilingual Serbian-English (C2). Speaks, reads and writes in French (B2). Speaks basic Japanese (JLPT N4).
