Marija Milinković (b.1973) graduated from the University of Belgrade – Faculty of Architecture (UBFA) and the Moscow Architectural Institute (MarchI) in 1998. She obtained her Master of Science in 2007, with the thesis Critical Practice of Architect Nikola Dobrović: Dubrovnik Period (1934-1943), and her doctorate, Architectural Critical Practice: Theoretical Models, was defended in 2013 at the UBFA. The Faculty of Architecture awarded her the Nikola Dobrović prize for best diploma project (1998) and Institute of Architecture and Urban & Spatial Planning of Serbia – the Milorad Macura award for best Master’s thesis (2007).

 

She is the author of papers published in peer reviewed national and international journals [Arhitektura i urbanizam (2005), arq: Architectural Research Quarterly (2014), Kultura (2017, 2018), Architektura & Urbanizmus (2018) Sustainability (2019)] and presented at international scientific conferences [Theory by Design (Antwerp, 2012), Architectural Research Addressing Societal Challenges (Lisbon, 2016), Landscape Futures (Copenhagen, 2017), Chances (Bologna, 2019), The Terms of Habitation (Jerusalem, 2020)].

 

Marija Milinković completed her design practice (1998-2003) and became a licenced architect in 2003. As a team member, she has been awarded multiple prizes and awards at architecture competitions, has presented designs at several exhibits, and is the author and co-author of two built architectural projects.

 

Involved in the teaching process since 1998, she has developed her pedagogical experience through continuous comparative work in architectural design studio and teaching the subjects in the field of architectural history and theory. During her academic career, she has participated in organizing exhibits, student workshops and seminars, guest lecture programs and international scientific conferences. Since 2018 she is a member of the Management Committee of the international research project, COST Action CA18137, European Middle-Class Mass Housing (EU-MCMH).

 

The main fields of her interest include: architectural critical theory and practice, architectural modernism in Yugoslavia, methodology of architectural research and design, theory of proportions and modular coordination.
