Architectural Cosmopoiesis: An Exercise In Drawing is a student workshop held on the 20th of May 2015 at the University of Belgrade – Faculty of Architecture, with guest mentor Mary Vaughan Johnson, chief docent and curator of the Maison de Verre, Paris.

With the proliferation of digital technologies it is now more critical than ever to reexamine the role of drawing in architectural thinking. As a fundamental locus for projecting future buildings, unlike digital representations that rely on a disembodied Cartesian process, drawing is an embodied act of materializing the imagination that relies on a sapient knowledge resulting from our experience of being in the world.

Inspired by Marco Frascari’s Eleven Exercises in the Art of Architectural Drawing, the objective of this workshop was intended for students of architecture to investigate through drawing exercises their own cognitive musings in order to challenge our current disembodied digital technologies. Emphasis was placed on drawing as a process rather than an end product.
